Organizational Description: The Greening of Detroit is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working with residents, block clubs, community development corporations, schools, faith-based organizations and businesses to grow a greener Detroit through planting and educational programs, workforce development, environmental leadership, advocacy and by building community capacity. Since 1989, we have worked to reforest the City of Detroit, by planting over 137,000 trees since the Greening’s inception.

 

SUMMARY:

The Development Coordinator performs a variety of tasks and is responsible for daily activities, including supporting development programs, maintaining donor records, and soliciting and acknowledging donations. This position works directly with the Development Director to create overall Development plans and logistics for fundraising goals set each fiscal year. Additionally, the Development Coordinator provides administrative support and data entry for Development documentation. This position also oversees Individual Membership, Gift of Tree Campaigns, annual Special Events, including arranging meetings with donors and prospective donors as necessary. Please note, a certain degree of creativity, flexibility and latitude is required to be successful in this position.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Establish and maintain central file systems and ensure all files are complete and the routing process is managed accordingly.

·       Ensure all donations are entered accurately in the donor database and acknowledged on a timely basis.

·       Manage individual Membership and Gift of Tree Campaigns.

·       Attend events as needed and coordinates campaigns and appeals via direct mail, e-mail and social media.

·       Provide Gift Processing and timely donor acknowledgements

·       Engage in prospect research to identify new sources of contributed income.

·       Manage the grant reporting calendar and assist Development Director with the writing of reports and materials to ensure timely and accurate submission.

·       Complete monthly development and dashboard reports to ensure targets are being met.

·       Assist with donor events, tours, media events and other activities as necessary.

 

·       Provides coordination, design, and implementation of Signature Fundraising Events for The Greening of Detroit

·       Support the work of the organization as requested by the Development Director.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree/or equivalent job experience required.

  • A minimum of three years working in development/fundraising/community relations/marketing managing activities and campaigns or donor relations strongly preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills.

  • Experience working successfully with several different supervisors and meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Strong belief in Detroit's future and an ethic of care for the environment.

  • Positive experience working with committees and volunteers to implement campaigns.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including oral, written, proofreading, and listening.

  • All components of Microsoft Office Suite 365.

  • Previous experience utilizing Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising software program and prospect research data bases (i.e. Foundation Search).
